Dark, Rich, Moisturising Hair And Scalp Oil

This is a very simple oil blending recipe. It is very dark, thick and smells like earth and amazingly nourishing to hair & scalp. It is choked full of vitamins and anti-oxidants that will nourish, moisturise not only hair but also the skin. All these oils are natural and unrefined. However, alternative oils like extra virgin oil, safflower oil, almond oil, black seed oil, emu oil, neem oil, peppermint essential oil, rosemary essential oil, cedarwood essential, etc, can also be used to replace any of the ones listed below. The Recipe Tamanu Oil (15ml) Pumpkin Seed Oil (15ml) Unrefined Hempseed Oil (10ml) Organic Unrefined  Avocado Oil (5ml) Black Jamaican Castor Oil (15ml) Tea Tree Essential Oil (optional-5 drops) You Will Need The Oils Measuring Spoons/Digital Scale 50ml Bottle Funnel Bits And Pieces Pumpkin seed oil contains vitamin A, E and zinc and omega-3&6 which are essential fatty acids that enhances the health of hair and scalp whilst promoting growth. Hydrosol Floral Water + Pumpkin Seed Oil = Soft & Plump Skin

Like my hair, my skin is also dry and the only way to manage it is through hydration and moisturisation and yes! I know the best way to achieve that is drinking a reasonable amount of water and having a good diet(still working on that), however tropical application of creams and lotions is also important to me. Hydrating and moisturising are often mixed up when it comes to skin care or even hair care but simply put, to hydrate basically means to apply liquid to the surface of the skin, it’s like giving your skin water/hydrosols/floral water to drink and this makes it plump and fresh, for the water to be locked into the skin and not lost, you need to moisturise with oils/butters/creams and this creates a layer over the skin that locks in the liquid, protects, softens, smooths the skin. So understanding this, and knowing fully well that liquid and oils don’t mix, I came up with this really simple recipe of oil, hydrosol and floral water. Bits About Hydrosols And Floral Water. According …

Rhassoul Clay Hair Wash

I’ve been using Rhassoul clay to wash and cleanse my scalp for a few years now, basically since I’ve been back to my natural hair and that’s a bit over 3 years. I can’t really remember what or who made me try it but I did and loved it! so I stuck to it. And I have never tried any other clay on my hair since this works just fine, infact I don’t intend to at least for now. Why You Should Try Rhassoul Clay Rhassoul or ghassoul clay is a natural mineral mined in the atlas mountains since the eighth century. It is formed by natural geothermal process and volcanic activity. Rhassoul clay is gentle and moisturising. It contains silica, magnesium, and potassium which are essential to strong and healthy hair, skin and nails. It helps in detoxifying, clarifies and it cleanses through adsorption. It helps in improving the texture of hair and skin. I have 4c afro kinky hair with very tight curl pattern, and my hair basically becomes wavy anytime I use …

Tingling Scalp Treatment Oil

One of the best thing about mixing and blending your own oils/butters is that you know exactly what is going in, you are able to play around with recipes and measurements and also trying out new oils/butters. It is just so much fun learning and reading about natural oils/butters. I recently came across this recipe online at http://www.naturalbeautyworkshop.com while I was looking for the best oils for dry, itchy and scaly scalp. I had been dealing with a really terrible scalp issue as in itching and stuff, infact my scalp was getting a little tender because I could not keep my fingers out of my hair. I needed and wanted something intense that I can feel on my scalp (Tingling) and this blend did exactly that. The original recipe used Arnica CO2 extract and babassu oil, since I did not have the two, I replace the arnica with rosemary essential oil and the babassu with coconut oil. THE ORIGINAL RECIPE Coconut Oil 60ml Babassu Oil 45ml Argan Oil 15ml Black Jamaican Castor Oil 7.5ml Anica CO2 …

Emulsified Pink Body Scrub

Hello and happy new year! This is my first post of the year and it is an emulsified sugar scrub. Normally adding sugar/salt/jojoba beads etc to a good carrier oil/honey (which by the way I love) is good enough for a proper and effective exfoliation, however it tends to be messy, tacky and difficult to pack as gifts or presents.  Emulsified scrub on the other hand is prefect, because it will not leak,it is less messy and easily washes off under the shower without leaving behind any oil residue. Emulsification simply means the combination of water and oil/butter with the help of emulsifiers. The amazing thing about this particular recipe(originally from soapqueen.com) is that it is a moisturising lotion because it contains oils and butter, a cleanser because it contains natural liquid soap and obviously a scrub so it is a 3 in one scrub. I have modified this recipe by adding a pink clay and infusing my sweet almond oil with dried rose buds and petals. Original Recipe (Soap queen.com) 1.9 oz Sweet Almond …

DIY CLEANSING BALM

Lately I’ve been exploring more gently ways of cleansing my skin, and that has led me to oil and balm cleansing. My last post was on oil cleansing and this is just an extension of that. It really feels good to know that after years of using harsh cleansers with the aftermath of tight skin feeling it leaves behind, there are more ways than one to get it done and not only cleanse but nourish and moisturise my skin. I have to say that before trying to cleanse with oils or balm you should do a little or a lot of research on different oils and butters and what benefit they have on the skin and also try to figure out your skin type, it makes choosing and blending oil/oils and butter easier and you avoid having breakouts or irritations. Check here for a list of oils and butters that will not clog your pores. https://www.beneficialbotanicals.com/facts-figures/comedogenic-rating.html Cleansing balm is the use of butters and oils melted or blended together to clean and moisturise at the same …

The Oil Cleansing Method

Oil cleansing as the name implies means cleansing your face with oil, yes OIL!. I have known of oil cleansing method for a while and I even tried it once or twice before but went back to my ‘normal’ cleanser. However, my skin’s sensitivity to alcohol had me seeking alternative ways to cleanse my skin without the over drying and itchy, which lead me back to oil cleansing and honey cleansing(honey cleansing will be another blog post). THE METHOD Basically, What you do is take a natural oil or blends of oil like almond oil, castor oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil etc. massage it in on your face in a gently and circular motion for a few seconds and take a soft cloth or muslin face towel, put it in a warm but not hot water and wipe away the oil. Do this two to three times and use a toner after, for any excess oil. your skin will be left feeling fresh and moisturised. According to ‘theoilcleansingmethod.com’, the skin naturally lubricates itself with oil …
