For this project, I was intrigued by the awe inspiring effects of raspberry seed oil on skin health, specifically matured skin, after all I’m a woman in my 40s now.
Red raspberry seed oil is an anti-aging powerhouse that deserves a place in every skincare routine and came to my radar while I was researching non-comedogenic carrier oils for mature skin, by the way it is rated as 1 which simply means it is less likely to clog your pores and cause breakouts.
Let’s explore a smidgen of the science, structure and benefits of this natural wonder.
Understanding Red Raspberry Seed Oil
Red raspberry seed oil is extracted from the seeds of Rubus idaeus, the red raspberry plant. This lightweight and non-comedogenic oil is celebrated for its high concentration of bioactive compounds, including:
- Carotenoids: These pigments, such as beta-carotene and lutein, are powerful antioxidants that protect the skin from oxidative stress and UV-induced damage.
- Essential Fatty Acids: Rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, particularly linoleic acid, red raspberry seed oil helps restore the skin’s lipid barrier and promotes hydration.
- Vitamin E: A natural antioxidant that enhances the skin’s resilience and combats free radicals.
- Polyphenols: These compounds have anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties

The function of carotenoids in Skin Health
Carotenoids have ability to neutralize free radicals and protect the skin from environmental damage including the following benefits:
- UV Protection: While not a replacement for sunscreen, carotenoids enhance the skin’s natural defense against UV rays, reducing the risk of photoaging.
- Skin Brightening: By reducing oxidative stress, carotenoids help achieve a more even and radiant skin tone.
- Cellular Repair: These antioxidants support skin cell renewal, promoting a smoother and firmer complexion.
Anti-Aging Benefits of Red Raspberry Seed Oil
As we age, the skin’s natural ability to repair itself diminishes, leading to wrinkles, fine lines, and loss of elasticity. Red raspberry seed oil addresses these concerns with its potent anti-aging properties:
- Boosts Collagen Production: The omega-3 fatty acids and carotenoids in the oil stimulate collagen synthesis, enhancing skin firmness.
- Hydrates and Nourishes: Essential fatty acids replenish the skin’s moisture barrier, reducing dryness and flakiness.
- Reduces Inflammation: Polyphenols and vitamin E soothe irritation and redness, which are common in mature skin.
- Prevents Oxidative Damage: The combination of carotenoids and vitamin E protects the skin from environmental aggressors, delaying the signs of aging.
Potent Facial Oil Blend for Mature Skin
In addition to red raspberry oil, I added safflower oil, an oil that has been found to inhibit tyrosinase, this means it has a whitening effect that may help in fading dark patches on the skin+ sea buckthorn oil which also helps boosts skin elasticity and repairs damage, I think it is a perfect blend with red raspberry oil.
Eco silk, a vegetable emollient that softens skin and improves spreadability combined well with this recipe especially with the addition of vitamin e which can be viscous in nature. A few drops of Frankincense essential was also used to further enhance and fortify the effectives of this blend.
This is a 50grams recipe.
Ingredients:
- Red Raspberry Seed Oil: 50% = 25grams
- Safflower oil: 42% = 21grams
- Sea Buckthorn Oil: 5% = 2.5grams
- Eco silk Oil: 2% = 1gram (This is optional and more carrier oil can be added)
- Vitamin E Oil: 1% = 0.5gram ( This is important because it increases the longevity of the oil and also very healing for the skin)
- Frankincense Essential Oil: 2 drops (promotes skin tightening and reduces wrinkles.

Note: The addition of essential oil or fragrance oil often times takes 1% of a recipe and its optional, hence the recipe having just 2 drops of frankincense essential oil.
The method:
- Measure out all the oils in a clean and sterilised jar.
- Add the essential oils of frankincense.
- mix the ingredients.
- Pour in a dark glass dropper bottle.
- Store the blend in a cool, dry place to maintain its potency.

How to use:
- Apply 3-5 drops of the blend to cleansed skin, after an hydrating serum and before a nourishing face cream.
- massage gently upward.
- Use daily at night for optimal results.

As always, I appreciate your support, and let me know your thoughts.
Thank you!
