If like me you have the type 4 natural hair texture (http://www.naturallycurly.com/hair-types) then you will understand how important having a good detangler can be, however getting a good detangler is not the easiest thing so i came up with this concoction after using each ingredients separately and loving the result. Not only was I able to get all the knots out of my hair easily but my hair felt amazingly soft, shiny and very well conditioned after each use individual and also together. This is so easy to make and everything you need is probably in your kitchen cabinet.
What you will need:
Applicator Bottle: Because its easy and less messy and makes measuring easy.
Honey: For its softening and smoothing properties and natural antioxidants that is really good for the scalp. It also prevents moisture loss.
Coconut Milk: Very in high in protein, which is amazing for hair growth and general health of the hair.
Coconut Oil:It is rich in lauric acid and also contains protein. Coconut oil is one of the few oils that can actually penetrate the strands of the hair so it is very good for the scalp.
Peppermint/Rosemary/Lavender Essential Oil: For the stimulating effect on the scalp and hair growth.
Honey, Coconut Oil, Coconut Milk can be used separately for detangling, conditioning, and deep conditioning but the combination of the three works wonder for my thirsty strands and scalp. It can be used as a detangler, prepoo treatment, conditioning treatment, deep conditioning treatment.
How to mix:
- Coconut oil (30ml)
- Honey (60ml)
- Coconut milk (150ml)
I use the measurement on the applicator bottle and I pour each ingredient in and shake the bottle to mix it all together. It can be very messy so applicator bottle comes in very handy.
How I Use:
As a pre shampoo treatment and detangler, I section my unwashed hair into 4 or more sections for easy handling and it is also makes it faster for me, I am almost 2 years natural but my hair is a little thick and sectioning it makes it easier to handle. Then I just apply the mixture from tip to root after which I comb it through with my fingers or a wide tooth comb to get all the knots and loose hair out and I cover with a plastic cap for 30 to 45mins, then I wash and condition my hair like I would normally. For this mixture i decided not to use any essential oil, however 10-15 drops should be okay but if you have a bigger bottle and longer hair or shorter hair then you might need to add more or less.
The result is a very soft shiny well conditioned hair and your scalp is left clean and fresh. This is definitely worth a try. Thank you!.
