Favourites + Effective Natural Plant Oils For Hair And Skin

Carrier Oils/Base Oils are natural plant/fruits oils, pressed from the leaves or seed of such plant. Usually, plant oils do not have any strong concentrated aroma unlike essential oil, however some type of oils like neem oil, marula oil, olives etc, have distinctive smell, also carrier oils are not prone to evaporation because they are less volatile unlike essential oil. The best plant oil is unrefined, cold pressed, and organic. That been said I don’t always buy the organic oils, as long as its pure and unrefined, I’m good. Carrier oils are important for health and beauty. They not only help the skin absorb essential oils better, they moisturise and protect the skin from damage caused by external environmental factors. Using natural oil is a really fast way to get antioxidants, essential fatty acids and vitamins on your skin tropically and I’m obsessed with them it’s not even funny, I’m always mixing/blending with essential oils to use for my skin, hair and face. These oils are just a few new ones I’ve just started using and not so new …

Vanilla Rose Hair Serum

I love mixing and blending oils and seeing what works and doesn’t for my skin and hair. I came across infusing oils with vanilla pods and coffee very recently, I wonder why I never thought of that though, anyway it caught my attention and I decided to infuse some Madagascan vanilla pods in sweet almond oil and sunflower oil. I did this over a period of two to three weeks but you can just heat up the oil and pods for a few minutes, allow to rest for a while and your infused oil is ready  or you could actually infuse for a period of 4 to 6 weeks, which is what am doing right now. It all a personal choice. To Infuse; I got a bottle, added the vanilla pods, poured in my oil and kept it in my kitchen cabinet for two to three weeks. This oil infusion inspired my hair serum, since the idea was to blend the vanilla oil with other oils for a sealant, I decided to add a little …

Lavender Infused Hot Oil Treatment

Hot oil treatment is a way of deep conditioning the hair because it allows the oil or oils to penetrate deep into the hair shaft, preventing dryness and breakage. It also helps in treating scalp issues like dandruff and flakiness. Hair dryness is something every coily, curly, Afro textured hair person or persons will struggle with(including me) and this is so because the natural oil from the scalp that is supposed to travel to the tip of the hair to moisturize it, cannot do so due to the  coils and curls. Hot oil treatment can be done by the use of one oil (olive oil), or a blend of oils with the addition of essential oils (olive oil and tea tree oil, peppermint, lemon grass etc), or a blend of multiple oils and essential oils. The application is a personal choice based on what you think your needs. If you don’t mind a little bit of oil  in your hair then you can do the treatment after washing,  however if you are not a fan of oily hair …

Discovering Hemp Oil….and yes its my first blog post!

Hello! since this is my first blog post I thought I should write about something I’m really excited about and that is my Afro hair. I went natural a while back and discovering what my hair feels like again without chemicals is just a really good feeling for me. So without further ado, let me introduce you to an oil that has been making my hair really happy these days……..HEMP OIL. Hemp oil is not the same as ‘marijuana’ although they are both referred to as ‘cannabis sativa L.’, they are scientifically different, the hemp oil does not contain the compound THC that gives the high in marijuana. It is a rich dark green oil with a very nutty and clean scent to it and gotten from the seed of hemp. Hemp oil can be found as cold pressed ,unrefined and organic or  refined, it all depends on preference, however it should be noted that the lighter the hemp oil the less value and nutrients it has. Cold pressed unrefined hemp oil can be bought …
